 Soil PH Determines Nutrient Value

Soil pH is a measurement of the acidity or alkalinity of soil.  pH is arguably the most important element of any soil test as pH determines the availability of all other nutrients to the plant.  On the pH scale 0 is acidic and 14 is alkaline and the optimum range for most agricultural crops is right around neutral (7), between 6.0 and 7.5 pH.

 Residue Management at Harvest

An important part of every harvest season is adjusting the combine settings to match the varying field conditions found season to season and even field to field. While we all pay a good deal of attention to ensuring the grain is successfully captured with minimal loss, we must also remember to look behind the combine at what we leave behind. Ensuring that the combine’s straw chopper and chaff spreaders are doing a good job of both chopping and distributing the remaining crop material can help make sure our next crops get off to a good start.
